Monitoring native killifish in threatened aquatic environments in metropolitan areas of La Paz, advantages and opportunities using citizen science
Special issue on Citizen Science
The Metropolitan Region of the Department of La Paz (MRDLP) in Bolivia has grown with minimal planning, changing the natural habitat. Currently, citizen science is becoming an important contributor of information on the biodiversity of urban areas. This study presents records of a native Andean killifish (Orestias) in the MRDLP obtained from the iNaturalist website. This study provides new records of Orestias in the RMDLP, expanding its distribution and signifies the important role of citizen participation as a tool to expand knowledge of biodiversity and monitoring of ecosystems sensitive to climate change.
